Disability Alliance BC is a member-based advocacy group. Your membership supports:
DABC was formed because the disability community needed its own voice. Our Board, members, and volunteers say, "nothing about us, without us”.
You can count on DABC’s Advocacy Access program for expert and respectful service. We know which questions to ask and who to contact.
Our projects respond to community need and increase people's ability to participate and contribute. In 2012, our Emergency Preparedness program won an Award of Excellence from the industry. We produced a new publication called Creating Safe Communities (Local Governments' Legal Duty to Accommodate People with Disabilities in Emergency Response). We assisted over 1,300 people in our office and hundreds more over the phone and by email to access disability income supports and other programs and services. We continue to work with residents of the George Pearson Centre and sponsor an urban farm project and desktop gardening project at the Centre.
We keep connected with a large network of community organizations (approximately 1,500) across BC and regularly provide them with updates about issues of importance to people with disabilities and their support networks.
We publish unique materials in plain language and alternative formats. If you’re educating yourself, providing care, teaching or doing research, you will find our publications useful and free online.
